The Cluny 2, Newcastle Upon Tyne
Presented in association with The Jumpin' Hot Club.
Chicago guitarist and member of the Bob Dylan band; Joel Paterson is one of the leading voices in American roots music, celebrated for his effortless blend of jazz, blues, country, rockabilly and western swing. A mainstay of the Chicago music scene for more than two decades, Paterson is renowned for his virtuosic guitar work, deep knowledge of vintage American music, and dynamic live performances. Whether performing solo, fronting his own trio or quartet, or appearing as a sought-after sideman, he brings a distinctive style influenced by Chet Atkins, Les Paul, Freddie King, and many other guitar legends of yesteryear. With acclaimed solo recordings as well as collaborations with artists such as JD McPherson, The Cactus Blossoms, Deke Dickerson, and Pokey LaFarge; Joel Paterson delivers the listener a masterclass in roots guitar from one of America's finest players.
He will be joined by two staples of the UK vintage scene - Jack Amblin on drums (Postmodern Jukebox, Ray Gelato, Pat Reyford, The Washboard Resonators) and Adam Richards on double bass (Howlin’ Ric, X-Ray Cat Trio, Rob Heron).
The last time Joel played in the UK was in 2016, so this is a rare chance to see this guitar master live!
